W. Jakarta Plants Lipstick Palm in Palmerah

Acting West Jakarta Mayor (Plt), M. Zen planted lipstick palm at Palmerah Sub-district office yard, Wednesday (9/19). It was done as realization of typical Jakarta plants planting movement which is done simultaneously in five Jakarta regions.

Palem merah (lipstick palm) is typical West Jakarta plant

M. Zen explained, typical Jakarta plants planting movement should be promoted to prevent it from extinction. Besides, it can be used to educate young generations in Jakarta.

North Jakarta to Launch Jakarta Typical Plants Planting

"In accordance to Jakarta Governor instruction, all urban village and sub-district offices will be planted with typical Jakarta plants based on its region. Today, we focus to plant lipstick palm plants in Palmerah Sub-district and Urban Village offices," he stated.

According to him, lipstick palm is planted since it is related to the origin name of Palmerah region.

"Palem merah (lipstick palm) is typical West Jakarta plant. Because of the plant's name, this region is called Palmerah," he explained.

He mentioned, there are many typical West Jakarta plants such as duku, kukusan, santol, mangosteen, durian and salak jati (snake fruit).

"Maybe we could also plant mangosteen in Kemanggisan Urban Village and plant orange in Kebon Jeruk Sub-district office," he conveyed.
